Offline passes

Venue doorways, basements and busy events aren’t always where your phone gets the best signal. So the Sidedoor app can keep a copy of your upcoming bookings - and their QR codes - on your phone, ready to show at the door even when you have no connection.

  • Your upcoming bookings and any active vouchers or events - together with their scannable QR codes - are saved to your device.
  • The saved copy is encrypted on your phone and unlocked with Face ID, your fingerprint, or your phone’s passcode, so your passes stay private even if your phone is lost.
  • It refreshes whenever you open your bookings online, and lasts for up to 7 days offline before you need to reconnect.

Most of the time you don’t have to do anything. The first time you open Bookings in the app while you’re online, it offers to secure your passes for offline - just confirm the one prompt and you’ll see “Passes saved for offline.”

You can also turn it on yourself at any time:

  1. Open Bookings in the app while you’re online.
  2. Tap the “Save your passes for offline” chip above your bookings list.
  3. Confirm with Face ID, your fingerprint, or your phone’s passcode when asked. Your passes are saved, and the chip changes to “Passes saved for offline” with an expiry note.

The chip shows how long your saved passes are good for - for example “Expires in 5 days”. Tap it any time to refresh them while you’re online.

  1. Open the app and go to Bookings. You’ll be asked to unlock with Face ID, your fingerprint, or your phone’s passcode.
  2. Unlock to see your saved bookings, vouchers and events.
  3. Open the one you need and show its QR code at the door.

If your saved passes have expired, or you haven’t saved any yet, you’ll see a prompt to reconnect and refresh them. Reconnect to the internet, open your bookings, and your passes update automatically.

  • You need to reconnect at least every 7 days. After that the saved copy expires and you’ll be asked to reconnect to refresh it - this keeps stale passes off your device.
  • Signing out clears your saved passes. When you log out, the encrypted copy is removed from your phone. You can save your passes again next time you sign in.
  • The odd QR may need a connection. If a particular pass’s QR code wasn’t saved, you’ll see “Reconnect to show a scannable code” - reconnect briefly and it’ll be ready.
  • This is for your own phone, not the venue’s. The venue’s door or host tablet doesn’t work offline - it needs its own connection to scan you in.
  • On the web, you’ll be pointed to the app. If you open your bookings in a browser with no signal, Sidedoor tells you to use the app to keep your passes available offline.
